There every indication that Owerri, the Imo State capital have taken over the whole of Owerri, the State capital.
This is according to a report by Punch Newspaper which noted that major streets in Owerri have been occupied by Nigerian Army, who it reportedly said we’re seen parading everywhere in major parts of Owerri and its major roads and as well blocking these roads against the road users.
The report also noted that residents of Owerri were been forced to trek long distances to get to their destination and motorists were also forced to reverse their vehicles.
A resident who spoke with Punch reporters was reported to have said that Owerri is turning into something else, adding that the government need to do something about the soldiers in the state capital because he and other residents have been trekking for one hour.
The resident said: “Owerri is turning to something else, what kind of punishment is this? I have been trekking for over one hour now,” a resident said.
According to our source, it was also confirmed that residents were forced to raise their hands above their heads as they walk through the streets.
It was reported that one of the Punch correspondents had to trek from Port Harcourt road to Government House Roundabout as armed soldiers were positioned on the streets with Armoured Vehicles and they were closely monitoring residents.
Recall that the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma had few days ago assured residents that his government would crush anyone that attempts to attack Imo people or wreck havoc in the state.
